Whoosh! Nuttin but Net!

One day in Kindergarten at Kirk Academy, we had basketball for PE. Everyone granny shot up close under the goal and missed by a little bit. When it was my turn, I concentrated real hard and with all the might in my skinny little arms shot it. It went over my head backwards behind me down the hill opposite the goal. All my friends laughed at me. I was so embarrassed! I went home devastated. Right away daddy knew something was wrong. He’s like, “Baby girl what’s wrong?” I strongly said, “Nothing!” He persisted. Finally, I told him what had happened. A few days later, when we drove home from school into our driveway, mama said, “Annalyn, look over there. Daddy has a great BIG surprise for you!” I looked and right next to my house in Hugh White State Park was a basketball court. My daddy had spent all day pouring concrete to make a lined half basketball court. Under the goal was a bright shiny new orange basketball just for me. I ran over to hug him. Daddy said, “NO child of mine will ever be laughed at. Every day I am going to coach you. I WILL teach you how to shoot, not a granny shot, but a one handed free throw like the girls in high school.” He wrote me out of basketball PE for a week or two. Then finally “my own Yoda” said I was ready! I went to school, walked right up to the REAL free throw line and shot a one handed (NOT granny) shot. Whoosh! Nuttin but net! Mic drop. I took that basketball everywhere from then on. I slept with it like blankie. I played every day ALL day on my OWN basketball court my daddy built me. I love my daddy. <3
