Obituary for Linda Horne (Hiers)

Linda Horne (Hiers)
Linda Lee (Hiers) Horne, age 78, of Acworth GA, departed life 9/12/2017 after complications arising from cancer treatment. Ms. Horne was born in Chattanooga, TN on 1/8/1939. She was preceded in death by her parents Marjorie Belle (Weller) Hiers and Robert S. Hiers, Sr; and brothers Robert S. Hiers Jr, and Baby Billy Hiers. Surviving family include sons Phillip W. Horne, Jr and wife Brenda of Sneads Ferry, NC; Stephen L. Horne of Renton, WA; and daughter Debrah Lynn (Horne) Wright and husband Bob of Woodstock, GA. Also surviving are granddaughters Nicole (Horne) Lynton-Edwards, Ashley Horne, Michelle (Horne) Waller, and Melissa Wright; and siblings Elaine (Hiers) Futch, George Hiers, James Hiers, Sue Ellen Hiers, and Thomas Hiers.
Ms. Horne attended Thomasville High School, graduating in 1957 where she co-captained the varsity basketball team and was the drum majorette of the school marching band. Her grandkids called her “grandmommy”. She loved animals and leaves behind her cat, Jazzy. We remember mom as feisty and fun-loving. She liked 4 kinds of music - country, western, Christmas and Elvis. She was an avid consumer of current events and was always willing to engage in political discussion. She taught us to respect others, love each other, and always, always encouraged us to pursue our dreams and interests. She was our chauffer, never missed a game or event; she cleaned us, she made us well, she protected us, she educated us, and she loved us. We miss you mom.
The surviving children will receive family and friends in Thomasville, GA at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a cancer fighting organization.
