Barbara M. Butterworth

Barbara Lee McPherson Butterworth, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed peacefully in her home on February 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born January 16, 1951. She grew up in Acworth, GA, and attended Cherokee High School, where she met Ronald Scott Butterworth, her high school sweetheart and loving, devoted husband of 53 years. Barbara and Ronald were married June 6, 1969, and were blessed with three sons: Scott, Matt, and Stephen. Barbara spent more than 30 years in the banking industry. Raising their boys in a home they built themselves, room by room, Barbara and Ronald set an inspiring example of strong faith, hard work, and determination.  

Barbara loved her family and friends deeply – and she loved the Lord even more. An excellent cook and active in her church, when someone was ill or in need, Barbara was quick to respond with a homecooked meal, comforting visit, and heartfelt prayers. Barbara loved to read and travel and was happiest in the mountains. Her family is comforted to imagine her with Jesus, laughing with loved ones who passed before her, gazing across a beautiful mountain landscape, a good book in hand.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Pinkney McPherson; her son, Stephen; and her brothers, James Johnston and Rick Parker. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald; her loving sons, Scott and Matthew and daughter-in-law, Danielle; her grandchildren, Simon, Emily, Madelyn and Paige; and her brothers and sisters: Eileen Floyd, Hazel Collins, Jerome McNeese, John Glenn Lee, Gary Ward, and Connie Tuberville.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Friday, February 10 at 2 p.m. at Poole Funeral Home, 1970 Eagle Drive in Woodstock, GA. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Barbara’s honor.
