She loved to sing. She loved to dance. She loved to play"Coach"� Beth Ann Breit, 51, of Woodstock, GA passed away peacefully in her home on August 27, 2021 after her two-year battle with cancer. Born in Smithtown, NY the middle child and only daughter of Thomas and Roslind, she spent a majority of her childhood growing up in Port Jefferson, NY. It is here she gained a love of sports and theater. She became a star athlete in high school, being named an all-County basketball player in her senior year at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School and performed in several school musicals before graduating in 1987. She moved on to Ohio University in Athens, OH graduating in 1991 with a B.A. in Organizational Communications. After working for several years in the retail and auto industries as a sales associate and then general manager in New York and New Jersey, she felt the call to combine her love of sports and connecting with others into the family vocation of physical education. She earned her Master' in Education at Springfield College in Springfield, MA in 1998. Upon graduating Springfield, she was hired to teach for Dekalb County Public Schools in Georgia She spent most of her career at Avondale Elementary School working to change the lives of her young students by teaching them to become not just lifelong learners, but also lifelong movers. She was beloved by her students and colleagues for her constant enthusiasm, positive energy, overwhelming generosity, creativity, and collaborative spirit. Her catchphrases and nicknames became lore at the school. Along the way, she did a stint as a basketball coach of Tucker High School and became an active mentor with the Impact Athletics Track & Field Club. She was a fervent supporter and member of the Avondale Elementary School Foundation where she helped to establish a 5K fundraiser. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Avondale Elementary in 2007. She would tell you everything she did was for her students and that she still had work to do.She will be memorialized for eternity at Avondale Elementary School with the school gym being named in her honor at a virtual event this Saturday, September 4, 2021. She is survived by her mother, oldest brother A. Thomas (Emilie), younger brother Stephan (Julia), nephew Henry and nieces Laurel, Isabelle and Michaela along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Her brothers will tell you she was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephew. A celebration of life will also occur for family and close friends in Pawley' Island, SC on a date still to be determined.
