On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Dereck Ernest “D” Catone, loving brother and friend to many, passed away at the age of 64.
Dereck was born on December 15, 1958, to Ernest and Velda Catone. He was honorably discharged from the US Airforce where he worked as a pharmacy technician, then later in life as a groundskeeper for the City of Roswell and City of Alpharetta parks and recreation departments.
Dereck had a passion for baseball, music, and his fur-baby Ziggy. He loved to play his guitar, of which he was self- taught. He would sit with his neighbors and play music and tell stories of his younger years as a baseball player and his love of family and friends. His love for his dog(s) were one to behold. Dereck was labeled the “animal whisperer” as there wasn’t a dog or cat that did not bond with him. Dereck did not meet anyone that did not love him. Silly and quick witted at times, but always put those in his life ahead of himself.
Dereck was preceded in death by his father, Ernest, and his mother, Velda. He is survived by his sister Christina (Gabriel), uncle Richard Catone, Aunt Suzanne Stefani(Dennis) and several cousins.
A funeral mass will be held, at a later date to be announced, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Marietta, GA. Burial will be with his parents in Hayward, CA. Donations can be made at North Fulton Community Charities, 11275 Elkins Rd., Roswell, GA 30076 or Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and Adoption, 3238 Cherokee St. NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
