Donald Lee Hiers, Sr passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2021 after an extended battle with Parkinson' disease. Born May 7th, 1938 in East Point Georgia, Don was the youngest of three siblings. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed helping his father with the family building business. While in college he met and married his first wife Sue in 1960. Don graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor in Industrial Management and joined the US Navy as naval aviator in 1964. He supported US Military efforts in Vietnam by flying P3 reconnaissance aircrafts. His love of flying led him to a long career with Delta Airlines with stints in Chicago, Atlanta and Salt Lake City; where he both flew as a Captain and trained upcoming pilots as an FAA certified instructor with Delta. Don and Sue raised three children. He loved the outdoors and spent time at the lake with his family, taking hunting and fishing trips and serving as a Boy Scout Master in Marietta for many years. Don could always be found at church fixing things and giving out hugs. After retiring in 1997, he traveled the country in a 5th wheel camper when not spending time with his five grandkids. Don also worked with Habitat for Humanity in Marietta as a project foreman, successfully completing over 16 homes that have helped many families get back on their feet. After Sue's passing he married a long time family friend, Carol and they spent close to 10 happy years together. Don loved helping people and his quick wit and humor always put a smile on many faces. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
