Gerald (Jerry) Stanley Kurnik, 74, passed away on August 9, 2018, at his home in Canton, GA. Jerry was born January 6, 1944, in Lackawanna, New York, to Stanley Kurnik and Bertha Sasiadek. He attended South Park High School in Buffalo. He continued his education at Erie Community College, graduating in 1963 as a Licensed Optician. He enjoyed time with family and friends, prayer group, bowling, puzzles, telling stories, and playing practical jokes on friends and coworkers. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Tina and John (Jack) Janiszeski of Phoenix, AZ; his four children Timothy Kurnik of Apex, NC, Tamara Lewis of Steamboat Springs, CO, Tabitha Birke of Woodstock, GA, and Thomas Kurnik of Cummings, GA; grandchildren Robert Birke, Shannon Day, Taylor Birke, Hadley Kurnik, Asa Kurnik, and Marin Kurnik; nieces Renee White and Deanna Shaw, nephew Brian Janiszeski; several cousins; and many, many special friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and niece Cheryl Fosdick. There will be a visitation at the Poole Funeral Home at Woodstock, 1970 Eagle Drive, Woodstock GA 30189 at 5:00 pm, followed by a prayer at the chapel at 7:00 pm on Friday August 17th. His memorial service will be on Saturday at the Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Rd. Marietta, GA 30066, on Saturday August 18th at 2:00 pm.
