Ida Jacqueline Carlton, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with Jesus on March 25, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born in Pompano Beach, Florida on October 21, 1927, the youngest of three, with her older siblings, Gordon and Angela. After graduating from cosmetology school, she worked as a hair stylist for several years. She met and married J.D. Carlton in 1950. They lived in Pompano Beach where her two daughters, Phyllis and Julia, were born.
When the girls were close to finishing high school, Jackie reentered the work place as an associate at Glendale Federal Bank where she stayed for thirty years. Another job she excelled at for thirty years was as a third grade Sunday School teacher. Her students loved her and stayed in touch even after they were grown.
Her talent to make surroundings beautiful included both interior and exterior spaces. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, and putting on a variety of parties and events. She offered her skills to her wide circle of friends and associates from work gatherings to church socials and get- togethers with family and friends. Her loving demeanor and characteristic of seeing the best in people was always like the icing on the cake wherever she was present.
She spoke words of encouragement, lived out her faith every day, and lifted up others in consistent prayer. Jackie pointed each of us to the Lord. She will be remembered for a life well lived, worthy of God’s coveted praise, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
She is survived by a loving family: daughter, Phyllis Gray, grandson, Matthew (Jordan); granddaughter, Melissa (Marc) their children, Irelyn and Lincoln, and son-in-law, Vaughan Fichtner, (daughter Julia, deceased 2009) and granddaughter, Kelly Fichtner.
