It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father James Alfred Smith, of Canton, who passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at the age of 93. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war who loved God and his country. He was known for his positive traits, work ethic, kind heart and compassion for others. He was also known for his sense of humor and many talents such as playing the banjo, guitar, piano and wood crafting.
He was a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family was everything to him and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Annie Mae Collins Smith and his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann Evans Smith.
Survived by his daughters, Connie Gunter and her husband, Barry Gunter, Lynn Rusher; brother, Charles Smith and his wife, Linda Smith; grandchildren, Christy Lilac, Michael Rusher and his wife, Jennifer Rusher, Amber Hasanovic and her husband, Ben Hasanovic, Joshua Rusher and his wife, Kristen Rusher, Bethany Bramlett and her husband, Justin Bramlett, Brooke Hudson and her husband, Gill Hudson, Brittany Montgomery and her husband, Jake Montgomery; great grandchildren, Kinsley Sager, Jaylynn Sager, Savannah Rusher, Parker Bramlett, Charlott Rusher, Ibrahim Hasanovic, Alexus Thompson, Rilee Hudson, Sutton Montgomery, Lucy Montgomery; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery with the U. S. Army providing military honors.
