James Shepherd Cole

James Shepherd Cole, of Woodstock Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 4, 2022.

James attended Grady High School, and was a graduate of Georgia State University.  He had a long career and retired from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He had many friends who shared his diverse interests that included traveling, toy trains, HAM radio, officiating Corvette Club events, and sailing. In his later years he developed a love of caring for houseplants as well.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Ida S. and Frank J. Cole.  He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Cole Williams and his sister, Alice Cole Cole.  

James enjoyed spending time with his family.  He is loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, his wife Susan, and his daughters, Angela Cole-Sabetta and Jamison Cole.

James took part in a successful medical trial for experimental melanoma treatment with the Emory Winship Cancer Center.  James experienced positive results and helped to pave the way for many other patients towards a cure.  As this cause was dear to his heart, donations are being requested for this organization in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life is being planned and details will be offered soon.
