Mr. Jeffrey Henry Jefferies, of Canton, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Poole Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home Monday afternoon. Burial will follow in Georgia National Cemetery at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 with Poole Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Woodstock directing. In Lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. Mr. Jefferies was born June 19, 1966 in Berwyn, Illinois to the late Daniel and Judith Jefferies. Jeffrey joined the U.S. Navy following high school and pursued nuclear power aboard a nuclear submarine. While on board the submarine he became the head diver. He was also enlisted Machinist's Mate, and in 1991 achieved the rank of Chief. He later became a Commissioned Officer upon graduation from OCS Pensacola, FL. Jeffrey retired from the U.S. Navy on April 1, 2007 obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander after 23 years of service. Mr. Jefferies was also an Expert Class Amateur Radio Officer for over 30 years who volunteered his time operating a MARS Station for the military. Jeffrey was preceded in death by his nephew, Brian Dunivan in May 2016. Survivors include his wife, Kathie Jefferies; his brother-in-law, William David Dunivan (Vikki); a sister-in-law, Sheila Cannataro (Ralph); two nephews, Will Dunivan and Nick Cannataro; one niece, Alyssa Cannataro; Jeffrey received numerous medals while serving in the U.S. Navy, Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), Navy "E" Ribbon (2), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Enlisted Submarine Service Qualified, SSBN Deterrent Insignia, Scuba Diver Underwater Insignia, and Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon.
