Jerry Flowers, 76, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert V. Flowers and Geneva Ledford Flowers. Born in Franklin, North Carolina, his family moved often as their father was in the Air Force. In high school they finally settled in Marietta, Georgia where Jerry graduated from Sprayberry High School. He started his college career at Reinhardt University and continued his education majoring in philosophy and theology at Bethany Nazarene College. Jerry served as a Pastor at two churches before feeling called to become an educator. He started his career in education in Cherokee county as a teacher eventually becoming an assistant principal and principal. While continuing his education Jerry received two masters degrees in Leadership and in Special Education. After taking a break from education he went back into the classroom to teach special education. One of his life’s greatest joys was teaching middle school special needs students. Having been a Boy Scout leader for many years and co-founding his own Boy Scout Troop in Acworth, he ran his classroom like a Scout troop. Students had jobs and responsibilities while still learning the approved curriculum. Jerry retired from education in 2005 to enjoy more time at home relaxing and pursuing personal interests and hobbies. Besides spending time with “Ruthie” and family, he loved to work in his workshop, tinker with cars, and read a good mystery. Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Ruth Flowers of Woodstock, Georgia; sons Anthony Flowers (Susan) and Kenneth Flowers (Michelle); stepson Jeffrey Duggan and stepdaughter Heather Lawless (Eric); and sisters Linda Herreid (Glenn) and Pam Barker (Dan). He was extremely proud of his nine grandchildren, Kristen Flowers, Andrew Flowers, Wesley Flowers, Will Flowers, Mason Lawless, Jack Henry Lawless, Bennett Lawless, Sarah Kate Lawless and Lucy Lawless and loved spending time with friends and family. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Poole Funeral Home from 12-2 pm with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 2:00 pm. Afterwards, attendees are invited to a reception at the funeral home. A procession to Rolling Hills Memorial Garden for the graveside ceremony will follow.
