John Turner

John Robert (Pat) Turner born on August 8, 1937, who was a long standing member with the Georgia Oil Association passed away on October 15, 2016. He was the founder and owner of Turner Transport before selling the business in 1989. He was born in Decatur, Ga and resided in the greater Atlanta area. He was a Presbyterian by faith and was an active member of Druid Hills and Roswell Presbyterian Ministries along the way. Mr. Turner believed in sharing and gave to several charities that were close to his heart that included: Boy Scouts, Boy's & Girl's Club, Camp Twin's Lake, Special Olympics, Georgia Sheriffs Association, Youth Homes, Georgia Health Care and Freedom Harvest Ministries. Mr. Turner had many accomplishments over the years including being an outstanding athlete, Eagle Scout, avid hunter and golfer as well as farming for much of his life. His passion for golf awarded and contributed to much of his success as a businessman for being able to share his love of the game to his customers over the years. He contributed to being a PGA Pro Am sponsor for much of his life and career. This contribution would open the door for him to be able to travel the world. His skill for hunting would cause him to be one of the founding members of the Flint River Sportsman Club located in Thomaston, Ga. which is still active today. Mr. Turner left a legacy of memories on their family farm located on Turner Hill Road which will be known thru out generations to come. He and his wife Connie had an undeniable love for his customers, friends, family and hosted a heritage of events on the family farm. John Robert Turner was proceeded by his wife Connie, Mother Mary Cowan Turner Taylor Jackson, Father Captain John R. Turner (lost in World War II), Step Father's Frank E. Taylor & Willis C. Jackson, Step-brothers Frank Taylor and Nelson Taylor. He is survived by his son's Chris & wife Sharon and Paul, wife Jess. His grandchildren Craig, Trevor & wife Tori, Presly, Jasmine, Ashton, Jax, Owen and Griffin. Great grandchildren Kiley, Addie and Corbin. Brothers David, wife Sharon and Alan, wife Jenny. Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Pat was cremated and his ashes will rest in their plot at Arlington Memorial Park. At his request there will be a family graveside service only. Poole Funeral Home in Woodstock, Ga is in charge of the arrangements.
