Larry Guinn Stipe

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved uncle, Larry G. Stipe (72) of Canton, GA on March 2, 2023. Larry was born in TN to John B. Linville Stipe and Alda Eugenia Stipe, the youngest of four children. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Joseph Gonda; his oldest brother John T. Stipe & Barbara; brother Carl M. Stipe & Eileen; and his beloved sister Sandra Brown & his “partner in crime” brother-in-law Jim N. Brown.

 Larry moved to Royal Oak, MI as a child and graduated from Dondero High School (1968). During an extensive career in mortgage lending and financial services, he eventually settled in Canton, GA, which became his home for 20+ years. Larry left for a brief time to move to Charlotte, NC, to be closer to his ailing brother-in-law, but after a year, Larry returned to Canton and was just getting re-settled. Larry was a friend to many; his sarcastic personality, witty humor, and intellectual capacity matched his bigger than life exterior, but underneath that lied a heart of gold and a soft spot for his family, friends, and his most loved companion, Katie his sweet dog. Larry was that ‘crazy uncle” that his family loved and could count on. Larry taught “life lessons” and shared “adventurous” good times with many of his nieces/nephews and grand-nieces/nephews, which will be forever remembered and cherished. As the only living relative left of that generation in the family, Larry was not only an uncle, but he graciously stepped into the roles of “father” and “grandfather” where there were voids left in the family. Larry was “many” to all his remaining family:

Grand Nieces & Nephews: Tara Harris (Branden), Joseph Brooks (Megan); Carl Stipe III (Paige), Collin Stipe (Kaitlyn); Ashley Singh (Sean), Kimberly Barilla (Richard), David (DJ) Howard Jr.; Cooper & Callista Kurek; Keelan, Connor & Kendall McKouen; Quinn & Keegan Brown; Clara, Emily & Katherine Preski.

Great-Grand Nieces & Nephews: Blaire & Quinn Stipe; Amira Singh; Scarlett Barilla; and baby Brooks on the way!

Larry would want to acknowledge and extend his thanks to his closest friends JC, Joe, Paul, Mark and his gang at Guston’s Grille.

As the sun set on March 2, so did the gleam in Larry’s eyes and his distinct laughter, but the memory of his good-natured and fun-loving relationships with his family & friends will always be remembered fondly. Until we are all gathered again Uncle Larry, we love you and “salute’!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time honoring Larry’s importance to his family and friends alike.
