Leonard A Pagano

Leonard August Pagano, of Woodstock, Georgia, beloved by his family and his friends, passed away on August 31, 2021, at the age of 99. He was born to his parents, Calogero A. Pagano and Caterina Maurello Pagano on August 5, 1922, in Marblehead, Wisconsin. He received his high school degree in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and then also received flight training as a Navy pilot during World War II.He married Lorraine Mary Piaskowski, the love of his life, in September, 1951, and they had a very loving and happy marriage for 70 years.Mr. Pagano is survived by his wife and other members of his family: his son, Leonard A. Pagano, Jr., his wife, Mary Lou Pagano, and their children, Lauren A. Pagano, Leonard A. Pagano, III, Audra Pagano, and Charles Pagano; his daughter, Catherine V. Pagano, her husband, K. Jack Haugrud and their son, Samuel J. Haugrud; his daughter Anna Marie Pagano and her husband, Richard Burfoot; and his son, Gerard V. Pagano his wife, Elizabeth Fryer and their daughter Emily Pagano.He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Calogero "Kelly"� Pagano (Grace), Victor Pagano (Charlotte), and Joseph "Joe"� Pagano (Elaine), and by his sisters Rose Pagano and Annie Biscuso (Tony). He is survived by his sister-in-law Elaine Pagano along with many nephews and nieces.Len was always a devout Catholic, and he and Lorraine attended Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, Georgia, for many years, and when the family lived in Athens, they attended St. Joseph' Catholic Church for many years. Len' parents immigrated to the U.S. from Sicily (Italy), and they settled in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where Len grew up and learned to fly, a skill further honed during his service in the Navy. Len learned to fly and gained his passion for flight at a small airport near his home in Waukesha. Len was a renowned pilot, had a passion for aviation, and deftly traversed the sky for over six decades. Over the course of his long and successful career, he was highly respected as a "pilot's pilot."Throughout his career and his life, he inspired and led others, while working for Capitol Airlines, during his over 20 years as corporate pilot at Roper Pump Company, and during his many years as corporate pilot for Colony Homes, where he happily ended his career. There was no flight maneuver that did not come easily to Len, and his mastery and love of flight are unmatched.Len was always deeply religious and spiritual, and many decades flying in the heavens no doubt made the spiritual seem more meaningful and real to him. His family expresses their deep love for Len and knows that his life will be an inspiration for sharing kindness, faith, and love to all.Due to the COVID pandemic, the funeral will be private, for family and a very few close friends, but we will plan a larger celebration for all of Len' family and friends when it is safe to do so.If the services can be live streamed, the information will be posted by Poole Funeral Home.
