Lewis Coleman Smith, born on April 15th, 1940, in Vinemont, Alabama, passed away on September 21st, 2024, in Cumming, Georgia. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose warm and welcoming nature touched the lives of many. With a career as a salesman that spanned over 40 years, Lewis was not only dedicated to his work but also known for his incredible sense of humor and commitment to family and church.
Lewis was married to the love of his life, Judy Smith, for an extraordinary 64 years. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and laughter, where faith was a cornerstone of their lives. Every night, Lewis would pray with Judy, a testament to their unwavering bond and shared devotion. They were a remarkable team on and off the tennis court, where they played together with the ALTA, proudly winning the first senior mixed doubles tournament.
He is survived by his beloved wife Judy, their son Barry Smith and daughter-in-law Jackie Smith, daughter Krista Givens and son-in-law Alan Givens, and son Brion Smith along with daughter-in-law Stacey Smith. Lewis was a proud grandfather to Emily Dubeau, Noah Dubeau (grandchild-in-law), Delaney Helton, Ryan Helton (grandchild-in-law), Jacob Givens, Hanna Smith, and Hunter Smith, and he adored his three great-grandchildren.
Lewis's light shined brightly in the community, as he found joy not only in family gatherings but also in spending time on Lake Lanier with his boat, cheering for his favorite Atlanta Braves, and hosting garage sales that brought neighbors together. He was a cherished member of the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group at Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church, where his friendships flourished and kindness was reciprocated.
His commitment to helping others extended well beyond his family. Lewis volunteered at a local senior center and participated in Meals on Wheels for multiple years after retiring, always looking for ways to support those in need. His legacy is one of compassion, joy, and selflessness, as he chose to uplift everyone around him.
Lewis was preceded in death by his father Edgar Smith, mother Mae Willie Smith, and brothers Mac Smith, Leon Smith, Charles Smith, and Billy Wayne. Although he is no longer with us, the memories of his light, love, and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Lewis Coleman Smith’s spirit will always remain a cherished presence in the lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed.
