Marilyn Carroll

Marilyn Anita Midkiff Carroll passed away on the morning of August 5, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born May 5, 1938 at Emory Hospital as a fourth generation Atlantan. Her parents were William and Hazel Midkiff. She attended Decatur High and earned her BS degree in English Literature from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was elected Vice President of the Class of 1960. She was also named to Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clarence W. Carroll Jr, her children C. W. (Win) Carroll lll, Julianne Shearer Carroll, and Randal Joseph Carroll, Daughter-in-Law Tracy Reid Carroll, nieces Vicky Schwartz and Nanci Sellars, nephew Brad Hatfield, Granddaughter Sydney Reid Carroll and Grandson C.W, (Cole) Carroll lV. She was a member of Hillside United Methodist Church in Woodstock, Georgia, and over the years she was active in Methodist Churches in Jacksonville, Florida and Tampa, Florida. She served with a faith that was above reproach. Marilyn had an open heart and was known as a kind and loving person who never took herself too seriously and loved to laugh. She devoted her life to raising and supporting her family and friends. While her main passion was family, she also was a lifelong avid tennis player, loved a great book (Du Maurier & Dickens were favorites) and any movie based on a Jane Austen novel. For the past ten years she fought Triple Negative Breast Cancer with grace, humor, faith, and above all else, love for her family. Her family feels blessed to have known and been loved by her. There are not words to describe how greatly she will be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (tnbcfoundation.org) or MUST Ministries (www.mustministries.org). A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Hillside United Methodist Church with the Dr. John Beyers officiating.
