Barbara Humphrey Brown was born in New York City on March 21, 1930. When she was 8 years old her family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where her dad William Humphrey, a pharmacist, bought a drug store. She spent her summers along with her cousins at a family lake house in Minnesota. During this time, she developed a love for the outdoors. She spent many hunting seasons with her dad hunting ducks in North Dakota. Once she graduated high school she went to college at Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois. She transferred to the university of Illinois her junior year. This is when she met Jim Brown who had just returned from serving in the Navy during WWII. After graduation they married and moved to Kankakee, Illinois, Jim’s hometown. They began their family here having three of their five children, Maryann, Tim and Cathy. Jim and Barbara moved several times in the next few years and while in Indianapolis they had their fourth child Becky. In 1960 they were transferred to Atlanta and knew this is where they wanted to lay down their roots. They continued to build their family having their fifth child Marybeth.
Barbara lost Jim in 1984. After Jim’s death, she started her own business and became a successful businesswoman. She retired in 1991 and moved to Elijay, Ga where she continued to enjoy her love of the outdoors. She moved to Woodstock in 2012 and became an active member of Saint Michaels church. Later that year her daughter Cathy passed away. She lost one of her grandsons Brandon Freeman in 2020 and two of her great grandchildren, Jacob Brown in 2003 and Philip Cheney in 2022.
On Friday October 11th the Lord called Barbara home.
