Nancy Balch Cox, 92, formerly of Highlands NC and most recently of Brookdale Senior Living, Woodstock GA, passed forward Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Brookdale. Nancy was born March 31, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Marjorie (Murphy) Balch. She was married to Harry E. Cox on February 18, 1972, who preceded her in death September 24, 2004. Mrs. Cox is survived by her son William Yde and daughter-in-law Charlene Yde, Woodstock GA, granddaughter Shannon (Yde) Gromek and husband, Matt Gromek, two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Taylor Gromek, Peoria, AZ and her daughter Mary Yde of San Francisco, CA. She was preceded in death by her brother Bob Balch and sister Ellie Roberts. Nancy lived in Highlands for over 40 years and dearly loved her mountain home and friends. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Highlands serving in many ways including Choir Director/Member and initiating a Sweater Knitting Ministry for children in 3rd world countries. She also belonged to the Women's Studies group. She loved to play bridge, read, knit and in her early years in Highlands enjoyed hiking and tennis. She enjoyed the pleasure and companionship of 2 wonderful golden retrievers while living in Highlands, Mollie & Megan and a sweet orange tabby, Rosie/aka Kitty Kat Cox. During her lifetime she was most importantly a homemaker while raising her children. She also worked in real estate, children's daycare and retail sales. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Her Memorial Service will be held in the spring at First Presbyterian Church in Highlands with the date to be determined. The family suggests memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Highlands or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
