With great sadness we announce the passing of Nora Catherine Darcangelo. Nora passed away on September 12, 2024 at the age of 72. Nora was born on September 5, 1952 to Frank and Mrytle Crane, the youngest of nine children. Her daughter, Chrisie, held her close through her passing.
Nora was a red head, straight through to the bone. She was feisty. She loved to spend time with her sister, Linda, who also was a spit fire. The sister lived nearby and shared many belly laughs and good times. She worked her fingers to the bone helping her sister however she could because she loved spending time together. They were rascals, the two of them. She also shared many good memories with her niece, Tony, who she loved dearly. Nora was funny and loved to laugh and smile. She was a social butterfly and would spark up a conversation with most anyone.
She will be forever remembered for her ability to plant a seed within a stone and watch it blossom. Her gardens were the source of her pride. Working in her gardens and planting flowers was what she most enjoyed most in her life. When you visited her, you could usually find her with her dirty bare feet, working in the yard. Her home was darling. She had a knack for finding the most precious things at yard sales and while thrift shopping. Her home in Painted Post, NY, was decorated so pretty. Often people would fall asleep while visiting her home because it was so peaceful and cozy.
Nora was a nurse for the Bath, NY veterans’ administration for several years. She was a fantastic nurse who loved her patients immensely and they all loved her. Many nights she came home to share with the family the funny stories from the veterans that she cared for. Later, when her dementia caught up to her memories, she never forgot being a nurse and how much she loved caring for her vets. She was very proud of that accomplishment.
Preceding in joining the Lord: Her Mother and Father. Her sisters Rita, Betty and Linda, Marty and brother Tom. Nora cared for her husband, Donald Darcangelo, for several years before he passed in 2007. Her dedication and commitment to his care was unparalleled. Dona and Nora were married in 1983.
Surviving are her children, Chrisie Balch and Jennifer Kulcavage, and her stepdaughter, Annette Darcangelo, who gave her so much love through the end of her life; her grandchildren, Catherine and Corey Jr. Kulcavage; sisters, Sally (Sonny) Sutton and Kay (Ken) Ayers; her, brother, Mike (Jody) Crane. She is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Nora had an extreme love for her red-headed grandchildren, Catherine and Corey Jr. May her zest for life continue within them.
Noras final wishes were to be cremated. Her ashes along with her husband, Donald, will be placed on the property of their home in NY. A celebration of life dinner will be hosted later for the family and friends in NY. (To be announced).
