Patricia Anne Mahoney

May 15, 1937 — December 12, 2024

Patricia Ann “Pat” Mahoney (Geyer) passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on December 12, 2024, at the age of eighty-seven (87) years old.

Born on May 15, 1937, to the late Thomas and Josephine Geyer, Pat called many places home over the years and was a frequent traveler. Pat divided her time between her five children, twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren in Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. She was at her happiest surrounded by family, where the sun shined warmly upon her, and with an ice-cold margarita in her hand.

After 42 years, Pat will finally reunite with her beloved husband, the late Francis Xavier “Xie” Mahoney. Even as her memory began to fade, Pat loved to tell the story of how she met her Xie. All those summers ago, Pat would pretend to paint out on the front porch of the family’s summer home in Falmouth hoping to catch Xie’s eye while he and his friends played football in the street. Pat will also be reunited with her dear sister, Jacueline, who passed away in 2006. Her family takes great comfort in knowing Pat was greeted by those she loved as she passed on, with open arms and warm smiles.

“Nana”, as she was lovingly referred to, was a fighter until the end. Following the passing of her husband in 1981, Pat suddenly became a single mother of five teenagers. Since then, she has been the glue that held the family together. Her greatest joy in life was when the whole family came together. Pat was a staple through the years at countless holidays, birthdays, sporting events, graduations, and weddings, and loved nothing more than celebrating with those she loved. A matriarch in the true sense of the word, and never one to turn down a good time, she leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Pat was always dressed to the nines. Even in her final weeks, the staff who cared for her knew that each pair of pants had to have a matching top. While she could no longer communicate with words, Pat would let you know if she wasn’t pleased with your outfit selection for the day. No matter the time of year, or temperature outside, Pat could always be found comfortably snug under a blanket with her feet as close to a fireplace as reasonably possible. She will be remembered by her family in the everyday moments of life, in the specific way a can of Pepsi tastes when you drink it with a straw, the smell of her philosophy grace lotion and perfume, or the sound of her little slippers shuffling down the hallway. Each night always ended with a hug, and an “I love you” before she went off to bed. In the years to come, those who knew Pat will remember her for her sharp sense of humor, love of hot fudge sundaes, and determination to beat you at a game of scrabble.

Pat is survived by her five devoted and loving children, daughter Loree (Mahoney) Sullivan and her husband Mark, son Stephen Mahoney and his wife Kathleen, son Mark Mahoney, daughter Christine (Mahoney) Hawkins and husband William, and son Thomas Mahoney and his wife Suzanne; her cherished grandchildren, Casey, Ryan, Colin, Justin, MacKenzie, Zachary, Dylan, Madison, Marti, Elle, Sarah, and Xavier; and her adored great grandchildren, Nala, Emma, Lucy, and Poppy. She leaves behind much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Poole Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Woodstock, Georgia. https://www.poolefuneralhome.net/obituaries/patricia-mahoney

A celebration of life will be held at Spinelli’s in Lynnfield on January 4, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be served to toast to our dear Pat. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pat’s honor to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, to help those afflicted by the disease that took her Xie far too soon. Pat will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for raising a family and creating a life as big as it was joyful, and the joy she brought to so many will not soon be forgotten.
