Richard "Rick" G. Douwsma, 52, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on Saturday morning, October 15, 2016 in his loving home. Rick was born in U.S. Naval Hospital in Agana, Guam November 6, 1963, the son of Douward and Nancy Douwsma. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerrit and Ruth Douwsma and Melvin and Berta Gerds. He graduated from North Olmsted High School and finished his college education at Urbana University. He enjoyed driving and was a truck driver until he was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis). He enjoyed many hobbies during his retirement. Many days he would be on the lake fishing, sitting back and enjoying a great history book or you could find him volunteering at the Kennesaw Train Museum. He also enjoyed putting model planes together and spending time with his wife. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Yvette Elaine Douwsma, daughter, Tesia Sullins, sons, Daniel Sullins (Laura and Elijah Sullins; parents, Douward and Nancy Douwsma, sister, Linda Fredrick (Kent), nephew, Alex Fredrick and many more family members. Memorial services will be held at Poole Funeral Home, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 3 pm with Rev. Dean Vonfeldt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 pm to 3 pm prior th the memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shepherd Center for MS, Amedisys Hospice or the Kennesaw Train Museum.
