Sarah Elizabeth Spicer, age 79, passed away on October 22, 2023, in Cartersville, GA. She was born on March 20, 1944, in Summerville, GA, to the late William Hoyt Abernathy and Bertie Louetta Smith Abernathy. Sarah was preceded in death by her father, mother, and three sisters: Vonnie Ruth Ragland, Mildred Lankford, and Sue Elliott.
Sarah was a vivacious woman who loved and served God with every breath. She was the one you could count on whenever you needed anything - volunteer, leader, organizer, wisdom, advice, a kick in the butt, or just a good laugh. She was meticulous in everything she did, which is probably why she was a successful bookkeeper and fantastic event coordinator. Sarah loved to laugh and had a somewhat sarcastic sense of humor at times. She enjoyed attending church, music, gardening, bird watching, theater, movies (if it was not full of blood, gore, and filthy language), travel, day trips, and just hanging out with friends.
Sarah is survived by her grandson, Robert E. Bishop, III; her Goddaughter, Rachel Green (Baron), and their daughter Kinsley; her nephew Earnest Ragland; and her nieces, Patricia Ragland Rich (Jack) and Ruth Elliott McCollum.
After retiring from John Hancock, Sarah founded a bookkeeping business called Spicer Consulting Services and led the women's ministry at Kennesaw First Baptist Church for several years. She worshipped at Kennesaw First Baptist Church, where her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 10:00 a.m. The address is 2958 N Main St, Kennesaw, GA 30144. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Lyerly Cemetery in Lyerly, GA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sarah's memory to Greg and Jean Hines, founders of FHD Honduras, at fhdhonduras.org.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Poole Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located in Woodstock, GA.
Sarah Elizabeth Spicer will be deeply missed.
