Timothy Lee Hamby

March 6, 1958 — April 28, 2021

Mr. Timothy Lee Hamby, age 63, departed this life Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Tim was born March 6, 1958 in Cartersville, GA to his parents, Grantful Lee Hamby, Jr. and Ruth Gravley Hamby. Tim was an avid gardener and enjoyed golf, any type of fishing, football and his and Arlenes trips over the years to varied destinations. Tim loved life and loved people. Tims career started in the military in October 1979. He served his country for 3 years until October, 1982. He earned the Rank of SP4, the Army Special Service Ribbon and Expert Badge M-16. At the time of his Honorable Discharge, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC in the 659th Maintenance Company. Out of the military, he worked as a USPS Carrier in Woodstock but his entrepreneurial spirit prevailed. He followed his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and opened his own business, The Bass N Buck in Woodstock, GA. After several flourishing years as a business owner, he sold the Bass N Buck. But again, his love of fishing triumphed. He developed and designed his own bait company, Salty Sucker. Opportunity came knocking and after just a few years, he sold this company as well. As owner and operator of the Georgia Bass National Tournament Trail, Tim ran fishing tournaments all over the Southeast for a couple of years. Tim was a great cook and once again his entrepreneurial spirit intervened any chance of him "working for the man" and he ran the concessions and catering for Allatoona Beach for several summers. He then entered into a position of a Wastewater Engineer at the Cobb County Water Department. He retired after 10 years. After resting on his laurels for many years, Tim decided to get back in the business he had always loved and had such a passion for.fishing. He, with Arlene at his side, designed a new lure and once again, from the ground up, he started a thriving bait company, Softy Lure. Unfortunately, after only 2 years into this new venture, cancer had a different path for him. Survivors include his loving partner of over 20 years, Arlene Fisher, his brother, Mike Hamby (Pam) of Cartersville, his brother, Terry Hamby, of Blairsville, his sister Beverly Cotton (Vic) of Kennesaw, his step-bother, Derrick Bennett(Dawn) of White Plains as well as nieces, Ashley Majors of Woodstock and Brittney Comer(Andy) of Acworth, nephews, Trent Hamby of Canton and Taylor and Grant Cotton, both of Athens, several great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 10:00am-12:00 noon and his celebration of life will begin at 12:00 noon. Both will be held at Poole Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA. Later that afternoon, he will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Tims honor to the American Cancer Society.
