William "Bill" Leroy Sanford

March 12, 1943 — September 17, 2020

William L. "Bill" Sanford 1943-2020 Bill Sanford, age 77, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord on September 17, 2020, following a long courageous fight with COPD. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Frances and William L. Sanford, Sr. He spent his childhood in Edina, Minnesota with his siblings, Jim, Steve, Peg, and John. His life's passions included everything nautical; he was an accomplished sailor and was certified to captain hundred-ton vessels. He was an avid fan of open-wheel racing and made several trips to the Indy 500. His love for racing even led him to take up go-kart racing in his sixties. He was an active member of Hillside United Methodist Church, where he served as project manager for Great Day of Service, head usher, a member of the security team, and was responsible for many repair projects around the church. He was many things throughout his life. Most notably, he was the owner of Emory Rental and he spent the last twelve years of his working life as the shop manager for Greenwood Group Landscape, where he transferred his love of everything mechanical into a successful and gratifying career. He was a consultant for Greenwood until he left this world to join Jesus above. He was an adoring husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carol, and her three children; his brother John Sanford (Helen); his sister Peg Pursell (Tom); his son, Bill Sanford (Connie), and their children, Parker (Martha), Heath, and Carson; and his daughter, Alison Nay (Brian) and their children, Matthew, Katie, and Sarah. He is also survived by his blended family with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His parents, Frances and William Sanford, Sr., and his brothers, Jim and Steve, preceded him in death. Bill was adored and respected by all. Please join us in celebrating his life of adventure and love at Poole Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Visitation will start at 10am with service following at 11am.
